Installation Mass of Bishop Tony Ireland as the next Archbishop of Hobart. Bishop Tony is currently Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne and will be installed as Archbishop of Hobart on 12 August 2025.

11am installation Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral
Followed by a reception at 1.00pm at the Best Western Hotel.
“It is with a spirit of service and devotion that I come to the Archdiocese of Hobart,” Archbishop-elect Tony said.
“To lead in faith, to serve with love, and to worship in spirit and in truth, as our Lord calls us to do in the Gospel of St John.”
Archbishop-elect Tony is currently Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne.
Bishop Tony has served in several parishes since his ordination to the priesthood in 1987. He has a doctorate in theology and has served as Rector of Corpus Christi Seminary in Melbourne. He was ordained a Bishop on 31 July 2021 at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne and was appointed Episcopal Vicar for Health and Aged Care. He therefore brings a wealth of experience in parish ministry, spiritual and academic formation, and health care.
