Baptism

The Sacrament of Baptism is the first step in a lifelong journey of commitment and discipleship. Through it we are freed from Original Sin (the darkness of the world) and become sons and daughters of God and are welcomed into the family of the Church.  Catholic families are encouraged to have their children baptised soon after birth, or as young children. There is also Baptism of adults for those who embrace the faith at a later date.

Infant Baptism

Arrangements for the baptism of infants is made through the Cathedral Office. Preparation of the parents is required at a special session prior to the Baptism.

Certificate of Baptism is provided for the parents after the Baptism celebration. All families with Baptised children are welcomed by the parish community.  Special care must be taken to keep this safe as it will be required at a later date.  Click here to order another copy of a certificate for which we ask for a donation of $20.

In the Archdiocese of Hobart it is the usual practice for children to be baptised in their parish of residence.

Adult Baptism

The preparation for this is usually through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).   Arrangements for this process is made through consultation with the priest or the person who is designated to prepare the candidates.  Please contact us for further information.  cathedral@aohtas.org.au
