Background

Everyone can play a part in helping others come to know Jesus.  Alpha is an 11-week course that creates a space where people are excited to bring their friends for a conversation about faith, life and God.  Each session involves a meal together, a video presentation and a friendly chat.

Is there more to life than this?  How does God guide us?  Does God heal today?  Alpha looks at these and other questions, providing a practical introduction to the Christian faith.  Over a series of interactive sessions, Alpha helps guests explore the meaning of life, revealing that Christianity is every bit as relevant to life today as it ever was.  For more information about Alpha, visit www.alpha.org/australia

Alpha in our parish

Our vision for St Mary’s Cathedral Parish is of  a lively faith-filled community forming disciples, who, through a daily living relationship with Christ, go out to transform the world.  We commit to welcome, to worship, to grow, to serve, to connect and to give (from our Vision Statement).

Alpha is a key element of our way forward for the parish.  It is an effective way to evangelise and make disciples, so we encourage parishioners to take part in Alpha and to be open to inviting others to come and experience Alpha for themselves.  We encourage those who have taken part in Alpha to join the team and help run subsequent Alpha courses.  The parish offers Alpha in a variety on contexts, mindful of people’s various situations and their unique faith journeys.

Whole Parish Lenten Study on FORMED

Would you like to grow in your relationship with Jesus Christ? Do you know someone who has fallen away from the Church, perhaps a friend, a family member, or a co-worker, and you want reach them, but you just don’t know how to?

This is why our parish has invested in FORMED—that each of us might grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ and be helped to share our faith with

others, especially those closest to us. We want to invite you to participate in a program called FORGIVEN offered on formed.org.

With beautiful film-making and teaching on the Sacrament of Reconciliation, FORGIVEN will move your heart and give you plenty to discuss as a family or group of friends. The program will be 5 weeks in length, with an episode to watch each week.  Formed can be accessed on smart phone, tablet, computer or smart TV.

Our Lenten Study can be undertaken at home using the formed website and can be done individually or in groups.  This is a great opportunity to get together with family members or friends and go deeper into our faith together.  There will be ample assistance for those who want to host a small group at home.

It will also be run on Mondays, morning and evening, in the Cathedral Centre.

If you are not yet signed up as a user of our FORMED parish account, go to signup.formed.org and put in our parish name St Mary Cathedral 164 Harrington St. Hobart TAS (or the postcode 7000) then simply enter your name and e-mail address and you will be able to open up all the FORGIVEN materials (under Programs/The Sacraments) as well as a wealth of other great

content to view, listen to or read.
