Background
Everyone can play a part in helping others come to know Jesus. Alpha is an 11-week course that creates a space where people are excited to bring their friends for a conversation about faith, life and God. Each session involves a meal together, a video presentation and a friendly chat.
Is there more to life than this? How does God guide us? Does God heal today? Alpha looks at these and other questions, providing a practical introduction to the Christian faith. Over a series of interactive sessions, Alpha helps guests explore the meaning of life, revealing that Christianity is every bit as relevant to life today as it ever was. Alpha in our parish
Our vision for St Mary’s Cathedral Parish is of a lively faith-filled community forming disciples, who, through a daily living relationship with Christ, go out to transform the world. We commit to welcome, to worship, to grow, to serve, to connect and to give (from our Vision Statement).
Alpha is a key element of our way forward for the parish. It is an effective way to evangelise and make disciples, so we encourage parishioners to take part in Alpha and to be open to inviting others to come and experience Alpha for themselves. We encourage those who have taken part in Alpha to join the team and help run subsequent Alpha courses. The parish offers Alpha in a variety on contexts, mindful of people’s various situations and their unique faith journeys.
NEW PARISH WIDE STUDY:
THE SEARCH – Why are we here? What’s life all about?
The Cathedral Parish is introducing The Search as a parish-wide study. This is a seven part series from the Augustine Institute on Formed.org with the goal of lighting that first fire in those who don’t yet know the faith or reigniting the fire in those who need to look again at the foundational questions.
The Cathedral Centre will hold sessions on Mondays from 4 October to 15 November at 10am and again at 7pm. Session will be 90 minutes in duration.
If anyone is interested in joining a Zoom session (possibly on Friday nights), please contact Jane at Parish office and provide email address — this would be limited to 10 participants. If you would like to run it in your home, simply access the program through the parish subscription to Formed.org – join with a few other people and watch it together, then discuss the content.
